Aging-Induced Structural Evolution of a GeSe2 Glass Network: The Role of Homopolar Bonds

Bing Yuan et al.

Summary: The structural evolution of GeSe2 glass during aging was investigated using Raman spectroscopy and density relaxation measurements. Raman spectra revealed volume- and entropy-driven changes in the relative concentrations of CS and ES GeSe4 tetrahedra, as well as in the chemical order of the tetrahedral network during aging at temperatures lower than the glass transition temperature. The structural changes involved an increase in the CS:ES ratio and chemical order, which could be expressed by a reaction Ge-Ge + Se-Se -> 2 Ge-Se.

Impact of a temperature-dependent stretching exponent on glass relaxation

Brittney M. Hauke et al.

Summary: This study investigates the relaxation behavior of glassy materials and highlights the importance of a temperature-dependent stretching exponent. Results show that a static beta description is roughly equivalent to a dynamic beta within a certain range of liquid fragility index. However, fast primary relaxation modes exhibit unique behavior when a temperature-dependent stretching exponent is considered, especially in systems with excessively strong or fragile liquid behavior.

Structural rearrangements during sub- T g relaxation and nucleation in lithium disilicate glass revealed by a solid-state NMR and MD strategy

Henrik Bradtmueller et al.

Summary: The structural rearrangements during relaxation and crystal nucleation in lithium-disilicate glass were investigated using solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. It was found that the change in the local environment of lithium, rather than the network former unit distribution, played a key role in the relaxation and nucleation processes. The crystal nucleation was accompanied by changes in the electric field gradients.

Effect of structural relaxation on crystal nucleation in glasses

Vladimir M. Fokin et al.

Summary: Applying the Classical Nucleation Theory to glass crystallization faces difficulties due to overlooking the influence of structural relaxation. Experimental findings demonstrate that glass relaxation significantly affects nucleation kinetics, leading to an increase in nucleation rate.

Is the structural relaxation of glasses controlled by equilibrium shear viscosity?

Ricardo Felipe Lancelotti et al.

Summary: The study focused on the structural relaxation kinetics of lead metasilicate glass, showing that the structural relaxation process is not controlled by isostructural viscosity and equilibrium shear viscosity only provides a lower boundary for structural relaxation kinetics.

Effect of structural relaxation on crystal nucleation in a soda-lime-silica glass

Lorena R. Rodrigues et al.

Summary: This article discusses the influence of structural relaxation on crystal nucleation process. It shows that structural relaxation has a significant impact on nucleation rate at low temperatures, leading to a continuous increase before reaching a steady state. The study also explains the alleged breakdown of CNT at low temperatures and reveals a significantly lower actual maximum nucleation temperature than previously reported values.

Fragility and temperature dependence of stretched exponential relaxation in glass-forming systems

Collin J. Wilkinson et al.

Summary: This study proposes a temperature-dependent model for describing the relaxation behavior of glass, which can continuously transition beta with temperature and accurately capture the effects of fragility and thermal history. The model is validated with experimental data for commercial silicate glasses and a borate glass.
