Effect of glass fiber loading and reprocessing cycles on the mechanical, thermal, and morphological properties of isotactic polypropylene composites

Emmanuel O. O. Achukwu et al.

Summary: A preliminary study was conducted to determine the optimal E-glass fiber content in polypropylene (PP) plastic products. Mechanical properties were lost after each reprocessing, but the chemical properties and elemental compositions remained unchanged. Thermal studies showed a decrease in degradation temperatures and a change in decomposition patterns after multiple reprocessing.

Effects of high-temperature optimization and resin coating treatment on the mechanical, thermal, and morphological properties of natural kenaf fiber-filled engineering plastic composites

Macaulay M. Owen et al.

Summary: In this study, kenaf natural fibers were coated with acetone-thinned epoxy resin and then compounded with high-temperature polyethylene terephthalate (PET) to manufacture composites. These composites showed improved mechanical, thermal, and morphological properties compared to the uncoated ones. The resin coating also improved the thermal stability of the composites, making them suitable for high-temperature engineering applications.

Physical and mechanical properties of flamboyant (Delonix Regia) pod filled polyester composites

E. O. Achukwu et al.

Summary: This research aims to develop lightweight polymeric composite materials using flamboyant pod as a matrix and investigate their properties and potential applications. The results show that a loading of 10 wt% produces the best mechanical properties, making it suitable for non-load bearing and indoor applications in the automotive and building industries.

Characterization of recycled and virgin polyethylene terephthalate composites reinforced with modified kenaf fibers for automotive application

Macaulay M. Owen et al.

Summary: This research successfully produced engineering plastics composite for automotive applications using waste RPET bottles as the matrix and compounded with chemically modified kenaf fibers. The treated composites showed higher mechanical properties and thermal stability compared to the untreated composites. The RPET composite exhibited similar thermal properties as virgin PET and can be considered as a substitute in composite formulation.

Effect of epoxy concentrations on thermo-mechanical properties of kenaf fiber - recycled poly (ethylene terephthalate) composites

Macaulay M. Owen et al.

Summary: The effect of different concentrations of epoxy surface coating treatment on the thermal and mechanical properties of kenaf fiber reinforced recycled poly (ethylene terephthalate) (RPET) composites was studied. The results showed that the epoxy-coated composites exhibited improved thermal and mechanical properties, as well as enhanced fiber/matrix bonding.
