Thermal behavior and anharmonicity of PO4-tetrahedral vibrations in natural fluorapatite by polarized Raman spectroscopy

Elizaveta A. Pankrushina et al.

Summary: The study used in situ ThermoRaman polarization spectroscopy to investigate the Durango fluorapatite single crystal. The use of polarized radiation allowed for a detailed analysis of the temperature behavior of all vibrational modes. The study analyzed the anharmonicity of fluorapatite vibrations and identified the most influential anharmonic modes responsible for structural rearrangements in the crystal. A comparison with chlorapatite was conducted to analyze the effect of substitutions in the halogen chain on the anharmonicity of PO4 tetrahedral vibrations.

Bone Diagenesis in Short Timescales: Insights from an Exploratory Proteomic Analysis

Noemi Procopio et al.

Summary: This study utilized proteomic technologies to analyze the effects of different post-mortem conditions on protein in decomposing rat bones, revealing associations between specific proteins and microbial-led decomposition or post-depositional environments. Muscle- and calcium-binding proteins were more prone to degradation by bacterial attack, while plasma and bone marrow proteins were more susceptible to exposure to extrinsic agents.

Statistical approaches in the analysis of in situ thermo-Raman spectroscopic data for gypsum as a basis for studying dehydration and phase transformations in crystalline hydrates

Elizaveta A. Pankrushina et al.

Summary: In this study, the temperature behavior of a gypsum single crystal was investigated using in situ thermo-Raman spectroscopy, revealing the dependence of gypsum dehydration intermediate products on measurement conditions and sample state. The analysis showed the temperature ranges for gypsum dehydration and phase transitions, with a statistical approach used to process experimental temperature-dependent spectra of crystalline hydrates, providing additional information for quantitative indicators of observed effects.

New insights from Raman MicroSpectroscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy on the microstructure and chemical composition of vestibular and lingual surfaces in permanent and deciduous human teeth

Giulia Orilisi et al.

Summary: This study utilized various techniques to characterize the microstructure, chemical composition, and hardness of teeth, revealing differences between permanent and deciduous teeth as well as lingual and vestibular sides. The findings suggest that Raman spectroscopy may serve as a useful and non-destructive diagnostic tool for obtaining comprehensive information on calcified tissues.
