Sustainable fashion: Design of the experiment assisted machine learning for the environmental-friendly resin finishing of cotton fabric

Md Nahid Pervez et al.

Summary: Given the carcinogenic properties of formaldehyde-based chemicals, an alternative method for resin-finishing cotton textiles is needed urgently. A sustainable resin-finishing process for cotton fabric was introduced using a formaldehyde-free Knittex RCT resin approved by Bluesign (R), and the process parameters were optimized using the Taguchi L27 method. XRD analysis confirmed the crosslinking formation between resin and cotton fabric without altering the cellulose crystallization phase.

A comparative study between PCR, PLSR, and LW-PLS on the predictive performance at different data splitting ratios

Teck Fu Thien et al.

Summary: Principal component regression (PCR), partial least squares regression (PLSR), and locally weighted partial least squares (LW-PLS) models were studied for their predictive performance at different data splitting ratios, with LW-PLS performing better due to its capability to handle nonlinear data. Optimal splitting ratios were determined by evaluating root mean squared error, coefficient of determination, and error of approximation for five case studies. Split-sample ratios above 70% of training data showed significant improvements in predictive performance compared to base scenarios with higher E-a values.

Md Nahid Pervez et al.

Summary: In this study, a polyethersulfone/polyacrylonitrile (PES/PAN) blended nanofiber membrane was successfully fabricated and applied in the removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solutions. The membrane demonstrated good structural integrity, mechanical stability, and hydrophilicity. The adsorption kinetics followed a pseudo-second-order model, and the adsorption process occurred in a monolayer form on the membrane surface. Additionally, it was found that PO43- positively influenced MB adsorption and the membrane could be recycled up to 5 times. Overall, the PES/PAN blend nanofiber membrane is a potential candidate for efficient wastewater treatment.
