A comparative study of mechanical, dynamic mechanical and morphological characterization of tampico and coir fibre-reinforced LLDPE processed by rotational moulding

S. S. Abhilash et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mouldability of linear low density polyethylene composites with tampico and coir fibres as reinforcement agents using a bi-axial rotomoulding machine. The addition of NaOH-treated fibres significantly improves the mechanical properties of the composites, and the interfacial properties between the fibres and polyethylene matrix are determined through qualitative analysis of fractured surfaces.

Rotational molding of polylactide (PLA) composites filled with copper slag as a waste filler from metallurgical industry

Mateusz Barczewski et al.

Summary: Research has shown that using waste-based fillers in the production of PLA-based composites can increase hardness and stiffness, with filler concentrations up to 35%. For filler contents below 20%, the composite materials exhibit good structural stability and acceptable mechanical performance. Despite the lack of surface modification, the adhesion between PLA and the filler was beneficial.

Summary: In this study, researchers investigated the effects of zinc oxide/titanium dioxide nanoparticles on high-density polyethylene by producing polymeric nanocomposites using the rotational molding technique. They characterized the morphological, mechanical, optical, and biological properties of the nanocomposites. The results showed that the addition of metal oxide nanoparticles improved the mechanical properties, UV light absorption, hydrophilicity, and antibacterial activity of the HDPE matrix.

Study on the Properties and Structure of Rotationally Moulded Linear Low-Density Polyethylene Filled with Quartz Flour

Karolina Glogowska et al.

Summary: The objective of this study is to determine selected properties of thin-walled rotationally moulded composite parts. The results showed that the properties of LLDPE/QF with HDPE-g-MA were significantly higher than those of LLDPE/QF without HDPE-g-MA. It was also found that the compatibility agent improved the composite material's thermal stability and enhanced the miscibility of the composite material components, resulting in better surface geometry of the composite samples.

Thermomechanical and Fire Properties of Polyethylene-Composite-Filled Ammonium Polyphosphate and Inorganic Fillers: An Evaluation of Their Modification Efficiency

Mateusz Barczewski et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of introducing low-cost inorganic fillers into flame-retarded ammonium polyphosphate polyethylene composition. The results showed that the addition of fillers increased the stiffness and hardness of the composite, while only slightly decreasing its tensile strength. The cone calorimeter measurements revealed a synergistic effect between the fillers and flame-retardant polyethylene, reducing the peak heat rate release by 60%.

Treatment of hemp fibres for use in rotational moulding

Maria A. S. Oliveira et al.

Summary: The research evaluated the benefits of using alkali-treated hemp fibre as reinforcement for rotationally moulded polyethylene composites. Alkali treatment improved fibre separation and thermal resistance, resulting in composites with enhanced performance. The addition of 3 wt% MAPE improved tensile strength and Young's modulus of composites with treated hemp fibre, while poor fibre distribution above 5 wt% fibre content led to decreased properties.

Nikita Gupta et al.

Summary: The study focuses on investigating the impact of glass fiber dust (GFD) on the mechanical properties of rotationally molded LLDPE products. Results show that the addition of 20% or less GFD in LLPDE can improve fluidity, facilitating the rotomolding process. Experimental analysis of different weight ratios of LLDPE/GFD composite, along with evaluation of heat transfer rates and crystallinity using DSC and SEM, demonstrate an overall performance enhancement in the presence of GFD.

Effect of coir content on mechanical and thermal properties of LLDPE/coir blend processed by rotational molding

Nikita Gupta et al.

Summary: This research investigates the effect of coir fiber on rotationally moldable LLDPE, finding that mechanical properties are improved with 7% or less fiber addition but regress beyond that. Additionally, the integration of coir with LLDPE produces a uniform distribution along the sides of the mold without applying external pressure. Fiber integration in the rotomolding process is believed to be possible, preserving homogeneous randomly distributed fiber dispersion.
