Surface-Enhanced Electronic Raman Scattering at Various Metal Surfaces

Ryuto Kamimura et al.

Summary: Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is a highly sensitive technique used to obtain vibrational information at metal/dielectric interfaces. However, the origin of the spectral background in SERS has been a subject of debate. This study measured scattering spectra for various metal surfaces and conducted theoretical evaluations, revealing that electronic Raman scattering is responsible for the background continuum in SERS spectra.

Microporous-Ceria-Wrapped Gold Nanoparticles for Conductometric and SERS Dual Monitoring of Hazardous Gases at Room Temperature

Haoming Bao et al.

Summary: This work proposes a novel and simple method for synthesizing microporous-ceria-wrapped gold nanoparticles. The method involves stacking ultrafine CeO2 particles on pre-prepared gold nanoparticles. The resulting nanoparticles have a uniform size and microporous CeO2 shells with adjustable thickness. The as-prepared Au@mp-CeO2 nanoparticles show excellent performance in accurately monitoring toluene vapor and other hazardous gases at room temperature.

Recent advances in SnO2 nanostructure based gas sensors

Yoshitake Masuda

Summary: This review focuses on tin oxide nanomaterials, which are actively researched as semiconductor-type gas sensors. The development and applications of novel tin oxide nanomaterials in the past decade are discussed, with a focus on how dimensions and morphology affect sensing performance. The dendritic structure formed by 2D nanosheets connected by crystal growth points towards future sensor development, while the high gas adsorption performance and reactivity of metastable crystal planes provide guidance for future sensor development.

Interfacial Evolution on Co-based Oxygen Evolution Reaction Electrocatalysts Probed by Using In Situ Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy

Yanfang Hu et al.

Summary: Understanding the roles of reactive sites at catalytic interfaces is crucial for the understanding of reaction mechanisms. This study investigated the synergy of CoTd2+ and CoOh3+ active sites in the electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) using CoOx as a model catalyst. By employing in situ surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), the formation and evolution of reaction intermediates on the catalyst surface were studied. It was found that CoOh3+ acts as the catalytic site for the conversion of OH- to O-O- intermediate species, while CoOOH and CoO2 active centers generated at the CoTd2+ sites serve as the O2 release sites. These findings shed light on the surface component engineering for the rational design of high-performance heterogeneous catalysts.

Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopic Evidence of Key Intermediate Species and Role of NiFe Dual-Catalytic Center in Water Oxidation

Cejun Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, label-free surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy was used to monitor the oxygen evolution reaction process on Ni3FeOx nanoparticles, revealing that Fe atoms are responsible for the initial OH- to O-O- oxidation, and the O-O- species undergo further oxidation between neighboring Fe and Ni sites.

Sulfur spillover driven by charge transfer between AuPd alloys and SnO2 allows high selectivity for dimethyl disulfide gas sensing

Bo Liu et al.

Summary: The modification of gas sensors using bimetal alloy catalysts significantly enhances sensing performances by modulating the electronic structure and reaction processes of sensing surfaces. The introduction of AuPd alloys on SnO2 surfaces enhances the gas response and selectivity to DMDS, confirming the importance of charge transfer and surface adsorption strength in sensor performance. In-situ and quasi in-situ testing techniques validate the role of sulfur spillover from alloy surfaces to SnO2 in the sensing process, enriching the fundamental research in catalytic electronics for sensors.
