Dynamics of Methyl Radical Formation Following 266 nm Dissociative Photoionization of Xylenes and Mesitylene

Namitha Brijit Bejoy et al.

Summary: The dissociative photoionization of three xylene isomers and mesitylene leading to the formation of methyl radical was examined. The translational energy distributions for the methyl radical were similar for all isomers except for m-xylene, which showed a substantial difference. The different profiles were attributed to the formation of the methyl radical from alternate channels induced by the probe. The dissociation process follows a three-photon absorption process and is insensitive to the position of substitution but slightly dependent on the number of methyl groups.

Photodissociation of Benzoyl Chloride: A Velocity Map Imaging Study Using VUV Detection of Chlorine Atoms

Christian T. Matthaei et al.

Summary: The UV photodissociation of benzoyl chloride primarily occurs from the vibrationally hot S-0 ground state, with only minor contribution from direct dissociation from excited electronic states.

Ultraviolet Excitation Dynamics of Nitrobenzenes

Lisa Saalbach et al.

Summary: Time-resolved photoelectron imaging was used to study nonadiabatic processes in excited states of nitrobenzene and methyl-substituted derivatives. Results showed that the torsional angle between NO2 group and benzene ring plane plays a crucial role in vibrationally hot ground state dynamics, and differences in NO vs NO2 elimination pathways are mainly influenced by steric effects.

Photodissociation of o-xylene at 266 nm: imaging the CH3 dissociation channel

Saurabh Mishra et al.

Summary: The VMI spectrometer was used to investigate the photodissociation dynamics of o-xylene, revealing a single dissociation mechanism with CH3 radical predominantly produced in the ν = 0 level of the ground electronic state. The weakening of the C2-C3 bond facilitated the dissociation process.
