Coupling the time-warp algorithm with the graph-theoretical kinetic Monte Carlo framework for distributed simulations of heterogeneous catalysts

Srikanth Ravipati et al.

Summary: Despite the widespread adoption of kinetic Monte Carlo simulations in surface science and heterogeneous catalysis, the sequential nature of the framework limits the accessible length scales. By coupling the Time-Warp algorithm with the Graph-Theoretical KMC framework and implementing it in Zacros, researchers have enabled distributed computing capabilities in KMC simulations. This advancement opens up opportunities for detailed meso-scale studies of heterogeneous catalysts and closer comparisons of theory with experiments.

Consequences of adsorbate-adsorbate interactions for apparent kinetics of surface catalytic reactions

Anshuman Goswami et al.

Summary: This article investigates the influence of lateral adsorbate interactions on reaction rates, rate orders, apparent activation energies, and Sabatier plots using lattice-based kinetic Monte Carlo simulations. The results demonstrate that lateral interactions can decrease adsorbate coverage and have complex effects on absolute rates, Sabatier plots, and reaction kinetics.

Effect of different doping ratios of Cu on the carbon formation and the elimination on Ni (111) surface: A DFT study

Huayu Qiu et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on addressing carbon deposition on Ni catalyst during dry reforming of methane (DRM). The study reveals that introducing Cu into the Ni catalyst surface can enhance its carbon resistance and reduce the energy barrier for CH dissociation, suggesting that the dominant reaction pathway is CH* + O* -* HCO* -* CO* + H*.

Sustainable Ammonia Production Processes

Seyedehhoma Ghavam et al.

Summary: Recent studies have focused on finding environmentally friendly, energy efficient, and economically viable production processes for ammonia synthesis due to its importance in agriculture and potential as an energy carrier. However, the commonly used Haber-Bosch process for ammonia production has high greenhouse gas emissions and energy usage. Sustainable hydrogen production methods like water electrolysis coupled with renewable technologies are being explored, but they require large amounts of pretreated water. A comparative life cycle assessment of various ammonia production methods shows that significant GHG emissions or high volumes of water are still present in these technologies.

DFT benchmark studies on representative species and poisons of methane steam reforming on Ni(111)

Sai Sharath Yadavalli et al.

Summary: Ni catalysts used in methane steam reforming are sensitive to carbon-based poisoning, affecting industrial productivity. DFT calculations offer valuable insights into graphene growth in MSR reactions. Studies show that PBE-D3 and PBE-dDsC functionals exhibit acceptable accuracy for graphene and most MSR species.
