Sub-Angstrom Imaging of Nondegenerate Kekule Structures in a Two-Dimensional Halogen-Bonded Supramolecular Network

Haohan Li et al.

Summary: The formation of a two-dimensional supramolecular self-assembly and a two-dimensional organometallic framework derived from 4Br-TAP molecule on Au(111) and Ag(111) substrates was studied using STM, ncAFM, and DFT calculations. The results reveal a diverse range of noncovalent interactions between bromine and nitrogen atoms in the 2D molecular framework on Au(111), while on Ag(111), the debromination of 4Br-TAP leads to the formation of an ordered 2D organometallic framework linked by C-Ag-C bonds.

Real-Space Investigation of the Multiple Halogen Bonds by Ultrahigh-Resolution Scanning Probe Microscopy

Dingguan Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigates molecular clusters formed on Au(111) with diverse halogen bonds, revealing the presence of three distinct halogen bonds among the clusters. The real-space atomic information of these clusters is acquired using non-contact atomic force microscopy and low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy.

Evolution of Br•••Br contacts in enantioselective molecular recognition during chiral 2D crystallization

Zhen-Yu Yi et al.

Summary: Halogen-mediated interactions play a crucial role in molecular recognition and crystallization. However, their effect on chiral recognition and crystallization has not been well studied. This research investigates the evolution of Br center dot center dot center dot Br contacts during 2D crystallization and provides fundamental understanding of halogen-mediated interactions in molecular recognition and crystallization on surfaces.

Seeking Out Heterogeneous Hydrogen Bonding in a Self-Assembled 2D Cocrystal of Croconic Acid and Benzimidazole on Au(111)

Daniel P. Miller et al.

Summary: A two-dimensional hydrogen-bonded cocrystal was synthesized from croconic acid and benzimidazole on a gold surface under ultrahigh vacuum conditions, with one-dimensional chains of molecules. Density functional theory computations supported the most stable model, and it was found that the equilibrium of tautomeric molecular states in the cocrystal network could be influenced by STM stimuli.

Identifying the convergent reaction path from predesigned assembled structures: Dissymmetrical dehalogenation of Br2Py on Ag(111)

Jinping Hu et al.

Summary: The study provides a comprehensive elucidation of surface Ullmann coupling of 2,7-dibromopyrene on Ag(111), revealing unique reaction paths, diverse assembled architectures, and a stepwise annealing process. It demonstrates that metal coordinated and halogen bonding motifs, as well as surface adatoms and dissociated Br atoms, play crucial roles in the coupling reactions. Additionally, it shows that weak intermolecular interactions in assembled nanostructures are immediately suppressed by strong covalent bonding during reactions.
