Torsion-Induced Nonradiative Relaxation of the Singlet Excited State of meso-Thienyl Bodipy and Charge Separation, Charge Recombination-Induced Intersystem Crossing in Its Compact Electron Donor/Acceptor Dyads

Summary: A series of meso-thienyl Bodipy derivatives were synthesized to study SOCT-ISC, showing weak fluorescence compared to meso-phenyl analogues. Electron donor 4'-hydroxylphenyl moiety facilitated fast nonradiative decay and induced fast ISC through the SOCT-ISC mechanism. Triplet quantum yield and lifetime were solvent polarity-dependent, supporting the proposed mechanism. Triplet-triplet annihilation upconversion using the dyad as a photosensitizer exhibited a quantum yield of 6.0%.

Summary: Sonophotodynamic therapy (SPDT) is a new approach for non-invasively studying solid tumors and determining singlet oxygen quantum yields. This study synthesized three new non-peripherally substituted palladium(II) phthalocyanine complexes and compared their photophysicochemical properties using both photochemical and sono-photochemical methods for the first time. Results showed that sono-photochemical method had higher singlet oxygen yields compared to the photochemical method, indicating its potential as a more promising approach.

Regioisomeric BODIPY derivatives: second-order nonlinear optical properties under an external electric field

Chu-Lin Qu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of an external electric field and arrangement of donor-acceptor groups on the second-order nonlinear optical properties of push-pull systems. It is found that the first hyperpolarizability value of p-AD is larger than that of m-AD, and external electric fields can regulate the NLO properties of p-AD. The simulated UV-Vis absorption spectra evolution provides a good explanation for the trends of beta(tot) values under an external electric field.
