Defining terms commonly used in sarcopenia research: a glossary proposed by the Global Leadership in Sarcopenia (GLIS) Steering Committee

Peggy M. Cawthon et al.

Summary: The aim of this paper is to define terms commonly related to sarcopenia to enable standardization of these terms in research and clinical settings. This paper provides definitions for commonly used terminology in sarcopenia in both clinical and research settings. As new methods and technologies are developed, this terminology may be expanded or refined over time.

Assessing Malnutrition in Systemic Sclerosis With Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition and European Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism Criteria

Edoardo Rosato et al.

Summary: This study found that the prevalence of malnutrition in systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients is lower than expected for a chronic autoimmune disease with gastrointestinal involvement, but slightly higher when using GLIM criteria compared to ESPEN criteria. In SSc patients meeting GLIM criteria for malnutrition, disease activity and severity were significantly higher.

Comparison of the Efficacy of the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition Criteria, Subjective Global Assessment, and Nutrition Risk Screening 2002 in Diagnosing Malnutrition and Predicting 5-Year Mortality in Patients Hospitalized for Acute Illnesses

Cafer Balci et al.

Summary: The study investigated the prevalence of malnutrition in patients hospitalized for acute illnesses using GLIM criteria, SGA, and NRS-2002. The results showed that GLIM criteria had the best predictive value for 5-year mortality among the three tools.

Malnutrition according to GLIM criteria in stable renal transplant recipients: Reduced muscle mass as predominant phenotypic criterion

K. Boslooper-Meulenbelt et al.

Summary: Malnutrition is present in one in 7 stable renal transplant recipients, with reduced muscle mass as the predominant phenotypic criterion. Assessment of nutritional status, especially muscle status, is crucial to prevent undetected and untreated malnutrition in renal transplant recipients. Further investigation is needed to determine the diagnostic value of 24-hour urinary creatinine excretion rate in this context.

Malnutrition According to GLIM Criteria Is Associated with Mortality and Hospitalizations in Rehabilitation Patients with Stable Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Vanesa Davalos-Yerovi et al.

Summary: The study found that malnutrition, as determined by GLIM criteria, had a prevalence of 45% in COPD rehabilitation patients and was associated with increased risk of mortality and hospitalization. Low BMI and FFM were independently associated with mortality risk.
