Visible Light Mediated Photocatalyst Free C-S Cross Coupling: Domino Synthesis of Thiochromane Derivatives via Photoinduced Electron Transfer

Nallappan Sundaravelu et al.

Summary: An efficient visible light-mediated photocatalyst-free C-S cross-coupling reaction has been developed for the synthesis of thiochromane derivatives through photoinduced electron transfer (PET). This methodology was further applied to the synthesis of thiochroman-4-ol via intermolecular three-component cross-coupling reaction. The reaction mechanism involves EDA complex formation, thioester cleavage, inter- or intramolecular sulfa-Michael addition, followed by aldol reaction sequence. The formation of EDA complex between aryl iodides and xanthate has been confirmed through spectroscopic experiments and DFT calculations.

Copper-catalyzed domino synthesis of multi-substituted benzo[b]thiophene through radical cyclization using xanthate as a sulfur surrogate

Nallappan Sundaravelu et al.

Summary: The Cu-catalyzed domino synthesis of multi-substituted benzo[b]thiophene was achieved using xanthate as a sulfur surrogate. This method was further extended to obtain tetracyclic Lupinalbin analogues, which were then converted into a HTI photoswitch.

The copper-catalyzed synthesis of (Z)-2H-naphtho[1,8-bc]thiophenes with solid emission

Yuan Zhang et al.

Summary: The research presents a method for the copper-catalyzed synthesis of polysubstituted (Z)-2H-naphtho[1,8-bc]thiophenes by converting 8-halo-1-ethynylnaphthalenes into thiophene-fused 6/5 pi-system compounds with high selectivity and high yields. The synthesized products show solid emission, making them potential candidates for optoelectronic conjugated materials.
