Sulfur-containing heterocycles are widely used in material science, biology, and pharmaceutics. Xanthate salts and xanthate esters, known for their stability and affordability, have been extensively studied for their applications in the synthesis of sulfur-containing heterocycles.
Sulfur-containing heterocycles, due to their application in material science, biology, and pharmaceutics, have great importance. Although different sulfurating agents have been developed over the decades, in this regard, xanthate salts and xanthate esters have advantages like stability, and affordability, which encouraged us to review their applications in the synthesis of sulfur-containing heterocycles, such as thiophenes, benzothiophenes, thiazoles, thiochromene, dihydrothiazines, 5,5-Dithiospiroketals.(c) 2023 Elsevier B.V.
