Rapid and Modular Access to Vinyl Cyclopropanes Enabled by Air-stable Palladium(I) Dimer Catalysis

Marvin Mendel et al.

Summary: We have developed a modular synthesis of (di)vinyl cyclopropanes under mild conditions and with full conservation of stereochemistry using air-stable dinuclear Pd-I catalysis. This method allows for rapid and selective access to a diverse range of cyclopropane motifs at room temperature.

Biomimetic Cationic Cyclopropanation Enables an Efficient Chemoenzymatic Synthesis of 6,8-Cycloeudesmanes

Phillip S. Grant et al.

Summary: Cationic cyclopropanation is a rare but important biosynthetic pathway involving the formation of a new sigma-C-C bond through the elimination of carbocations. Despite the historical influence of bioinspired synthetic chemistry, cationic cyclopropanation has not been widely used due to the preference of carbocations for competing elimination pathways. In this study, we conducted a synthetic and computational investigation of cationic cyclopropanation using 6,8-cycloeudesmanes as a platform, and successfully applied it to the synthesis of complex cyclopropanes.

Transition metal-free NaOH-catalyzed hydration of nitriles to primary amides in NH3•H2O-DMSO mixture

Nan Wang et al.

Summary: An efficient protocol for hydrating aryl(hetero) and alkyl nitriles to primary amides with 0.1 equiv. NaOH in NH3·H2O-DMSO was reported. The method showed good to excellent isolated yields for various substituted nitriles, and gram-scale reactions also yielded desired products in high yields. Excessive hydrolysis to form carboxylic acid was achieved by increasing NaOH amount and prolonging reaction time.

Vinylcyclopropanes as All-Carbon 1,5-Dipoles: A Reactivity Switch for Palladium-Catalyzed (5+4) Cycloadditions

Anais Scuiller et al.

Summary: Azonanes were prepared by a palladium-catalyzed (5 + 4) cycloaddition between activated vinylcyclopropanes and 1-azadienes. The vinylcyclopropane partner displayed unusual reactivity and behaved as an all-carbon 1,5-dipole. A N,N-bidentate ligand was required to inhibit the formation of thermodynamic (3 + 2) cycloadducts.

Palladium-Catalyzed Markovnikov Hydroaminocarbonylation of 1,1-Disubstituted and 1,1,2-Trisubstituted Alkenes for Formation of Amides with Quaternary Carbon

Hui-Yi Yang et al.

Summary: The Pd-catalyzed Markovnikov hydroaminocarbonylation of alkenes provides a straightforward and efficient method for the synthesis of amides bearing an a quaternary carbon. The reaction proceeds through a palladium hydride pathway, with hydropalladation and CO insertion being reversible steps and aminolysis as the likely rate-limiting step.

Advances in Reactions of Iodonium Ylides

Minghui Tong et al.

Summary: Since the first report on reactions involving ylides, iodonium ylides have been an important research focus in organic chemistry due to their unique reactivities as both iodine source and ylides. The preparation methods and structural properties of iodonium ylides are elaborated, along with a detailed review of their reactivities in insertion reactions, cyclopropane reactions, and development research in cycloaddition reactions, rearrangement reactions, and halogenation reactions.
