Evaluation of Stoffenmanager® and ART for Estimating Occupational Inhalation Exposures to Volatile Liquids

Eun Gyung Lee

Summary: In practice, workers often handle the same chemicals under different control measures. This study evaluated the performance of Stoffenmanager((R)) and ART in predicting full-shift exposures to volatile liquids. Stoffenmanager((R)) was found to be the most accurate, while ART+B was the most precise and conservative. It is recommended to select a tool based on the performance results of accuracy, precision, and conservatism.

ECETOC TRAv3: An In-depth Comparison of Publicly Available Measurement Data Sets With Modelled Estimates of Occupational Inhalation Exposure to Chemicals

Nenad Savic et al.

Summary: This study compared measured inhalation exposures to dust or vapour in occupational settings with modelled estimates using the TRAv3 tool. The results showed that TRAv3 overestimated 80% of the measured data sets and also had some underestimations. Certain input parameters were associated with the underestimations. The results can be used by TRAv3 users to assess the accuracy of their exposure assessments.

Towards further harmonization of a glossary for exposure science-an ISES Europe statement

Gerhard Heinemeyer et al.

Summary: The use of aligned exposure science terminology is crucial for ease of comparison and appropriate interpretation of exposure information. This paper presents the first steps in compiling the most important exposure-related terms from existing guidance documents and publications for exposure and risk assessment, intended to trigger discussion on terminology among exposure scientists globally.

Evaluating the Theoretical Background of STOFFENMANAGER® and the Advanced REACH Tool

Antti Joonas Koivisto et al.

Summary: STOFFENMANAGER (R) and the Advanced REACH Tool (ART) are widely accepted tools for regulatory chemical safety assessment. They are based on a modified multiplicative model, with exposure base levels and exposure modifying factors replaced by different quantities. The models provide qualitative outputs and have shown weak correlation with measured exposure levels, suggesting limitations in their accuracy and performance.

Exposure modelling in Europe: how to pave the road for the future as part of the European Exposure Science Strategy 2020-2030

Urs Schlueter et al.

Summary: Exposure models are crucial in exposure science, and the European Exposure Science Strategy has identified exposure modelling as a priority area. The European Chapter of the International Society of Exposure Science (ISES Europe) formed a working group to assess the state of exposure modelling in Europe and develop a strategic plan for improvement. The plan includes actions such as collecting available models, publishing a living document, and developing a best-practices handbook.

The European exposure science strategy 2020-2030

Peter Fantke et al.

Summary: Exposure science is an emerging and rapidly growing field that focuses on the contact between various stressors and human and ecological receptors. In Europe, however, this field is not fully recognized, leading to inefficient integration into policies. To address this issue, the European exposure science community has developed a strategy for 2020-2030, aiming to acknowledge exposure science as an independent and interconnected field, harmonize approaches and tools, and promote collaboration, education, and funding mechanisms.
