Influence of Covid-19 infection on fetal thymus size after recovery

Sule Goncu Ayhan et al.

Summary: The study reveals that COVID-19 infection reduces fetal thymus size in pregnant women, particularly those with mild or moderate symptoms, after recovery. The fetal thymic-thoracic ratio (TTR) was significantly lower in recovered pregnant women compared to controls, and showed moderate correlations with maternal monocyte counts, monocyte to lymphocyte ratio (MLR), and red cell distribution width (RDW). No correlations were found with lymphocyte counts, c-reactive protein (CRP), and procalcitonin levels.

SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) as a possible risk factor for neurodevelopmental disorders

Harikesh Dubey et al.

Summary: Pregnant women are particularly vulnerable to SARS-CoV-2 infection and it could negatively impact fetal brain development through various mechanisms. There is evidence of mother to fetus transmission, which could lead to neuroinvasion. Even in the absence of transmission, disrupted placental development and immune activation could result in negative neurodevelopmental outcomes. Long-term studies are needed to understand the potential neurodevelopmental disorders in pregnant women caused by SARS-CoV-2.

Association of Pregnancy With Coronavirus Cytokine Storm: Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

John Muthuka et al.

Summary: This study found a clear association between pregnancy and experiencing a severe course of COVID-19 characterized by a cytokine storm through a systematic review and meta-analysis. Further research on pregnant women diagnosed with COVID-19 is necessary to identify significant risk factors associated with its severity.

The impact of COVID-19 on pregnancy outcomes: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Shu Qin Wei et al.

Summary: Infection with COVID-19 during pregnancy may lead to an increased risk of preeclampsia, preterm birth, and other adverse pregnancy outcomes. Severe cases of COVID-19 are particularly associated with higher risks of complications such as preeclampsia, preterm birth, gestational diabetes, and low birth weight.

Fetal pulmonary artery Doppler evaluation in pregnant women after recovery from COVID-19

Ezgi Turgut et al.

Summary: Evaluation of fetal lung development in pregnant women recovered from COVID-19 using pulmonary artery Doppler showed higher peak systolic velocity and lower pulsatility indices compared to healthy pregnant women. The study suggests that detailed Doppler evaluations of the pulmonary artery may help in assessing fetal adverse effects of COVID-19.
