Smart pH-responsive magnetic graphene quantum dots nanocarriers for anticancer drug delivery of curcumin

Elham Seyyedi Zadeh et al.

Summary: A targeted multifunctional anticancer drug carrier was developed by synthesizing graphene quantum dots (GQDs) from graphene oxide (GO) and preparing a magnetic nanocomposite with Fe2+ and Fe3+. Folic acid (FA) was then conjugated to the nanocomposite, resulting in the formation of GQDs-Fe3O4-FA. Characterization analyses confirmed the successful synthesis of GQDs-Fe3O4 and the attachment of FA. The nanocomposite exhibited superparamagnetic behavior and demonstrated selective cytotoxicity against cancer cells. The cumulative release of the anticancer drug curcumin was monitored in different pH conditions. The results suggest that GQDs-Fe3O4-FA has the potential for therapeutic applications as a drug delivery system.
