Physicochemical methods for process wastewater treatment: powerful tools for circular economy in the chemical industry

Andras Jozsef Toth et al.

Summary: In the chemical industry, the treatment of process wastewaters is a common problem. The high content of organochemical compounds often makes biological treatment methods unsuitable. However, physicochemical methods can effectively treat process wastewaters and also allow the recovery of pollutants. This study examines the treatment strategy for pharmaceutical process wastewater and highlights the efficiency of hybrid methods in achieving the main goal of maximum recovery and reuse of pollutants.

Refinement of the selection of physicochemical properties for grouping and read-across of nanoforms

Frederic Loosli et al.

Summary: Before introducing a new nanoform on the market, it is important to evaluate its potential adverse effects through hazard and risk assessment. Grouping and read-across of nanoforms can help reduce resource consumption and maximize the use of existing data for assessment. The impact of nanoforms on human health and the environment depends greatly on their concentration and physicochemical properties, making knowledge of these properties essential for assessing similarity.

Safety Data Sheets: Challenges for Authors, Expectations for End-Users

Anne DeMasi et al.

Summary: Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) are crucial for chemical hazard communication and pose challenges for chemical manufacturers, distributors, and importers. The development and maintenance of SDSs can be costly, and the rapidly evolving global chemical regulatory environment adds to the burden. While the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) aims to simplify hazard communication, it brings its own complexities.
