Aryl- and Superaryl-Extended Calix[4]pyrroles: From Syntheses to Potential Applications

Ishfaq Ahmad Rather et al.

Summary: The incorporation of aryl substituents at the meso-positions of calix[4]pyrrole (C4P) scaffolds produces aryl-extended (AE) and super-aryl-extended (SAE) calix[4]pyrroles. These scaffolds, by locking the cone conformation and complementing the inner polar functions and volumes of their cavities, can be used for molecular recognition and self-assembly into various structures. AE and SAE-C4P scaffolds have significant applications in supramolecular chemistry, biology, material sciences, and pharmaceutical chemistry.

Systematic Evaluation of Counterpoise Correction in Density Functional Theory

Montgomery Gray et al.

Summary: This study systematically assesses the counterpoise (CP) procedure in density functional theory and finds that nearly complete-basis quality intermolecular interaction energies can be obtained using only double-zeta basis sets with CP correction. CP-corrected interaction energies are less sensitive to the presence of diffuse basis functions, which is important for large systems.
