Usefulness of candidate mRNAs and miRNAs as biomarkers for mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease

Hongyun Qin et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the molecular mechanisms and biomarkers of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease (AD). Through analyzing gene expression and miRNA expression datasets, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and miRNAs (DEmiRs) were identified. The results showed that miR-6764-5p might contribute to MCI and AD by targeting RPL11 in the ribosome pathway, and miR-6734-3p and its target mRNA CYTH4 might serve as novel biomarkers for MCI and AD.

Pan-cancer analysis of GALNTs expression identifies a prognostic of GALNTs feature in low grade glioma

Chengzhou Mao et al.

Summary: Polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferases (GalNAc-Ts) have been found to play a role in tumor growth and metastasis in various cancers. This study analyzed the expression and clinical significance of GALNTs in pan-cancer using databases and found that GALNTs are aberrantly expressed and associated with clinical outcomes in human cancers. The study also identified molecular subtypes in brain low grade glioma (LGG) based on GALNT family gene expression profiles and found that these subtypes are associated with immune response and prognosis. A prognostic signature for LGG was developed and validated, providing a basis for personalized immunotherapy in brain cancer.

Macrophage Polarization States in the Tumor Microenvironment

Ava J. Boutilier et al.

Summary: The M1/M2 macrophage paradigm is crucial in tumor progression, where M1 macrophages have anti-tumor effects and M2 macrophages contribute to tumor development through various mechanisms. The tumor microenvironment plays a role in influencing macrophage polarization and activation, which is essential for understanding the pro-tumor effects of tumor-associated macrophages.

Overexpression of PLXDC2 in Stromal Cell-Associated M2 Macrophages Is Related to EMT and the Progression of Gastric Cancer

Yiming Guan et al.

Summary: PLXDC2 is a gene associated with the tumor microenvironment, linked to poor prognosis and advanced disease in gastric cancer patients, and correlated with the expression of M2 macrophages and inflammatory signaling pathways. Its expression in stromal cells and interaction with tumor-associated macrophages may induce the EMT process, contributing significantly to cancer biology.

TISCH: a comprehensive web resource enabling interactive single-cell transcriptome visualization of tumor microenvironment

Dongqing Sun et al.

Summary: Cancer immunotherapy targeting co-inhibitory pathways by checkpoint blockade has shown significant efficacy, but only a minority of patients respond due to tumor microenvironment heterogeneity. TISCH is a large curated database that integrates single-cell transcriptomic profiles from 76 high-quality tumor datasets across 27 cancer types, providing a user-friendly interface for exploring gene expression atlas in the TME from multiple cancer types.
