Surface modification of ball clay minerals with gamma irradiation polymerization for removal of cerium and gadolinium ions from aqueous phase

Walaa R. Mohamed et al.

Summary: Surface modification of ball clay using gamma irradiation and chemical treatment resulted in the production of a composite sorbent with enhanced sorption capacity for gadolinium and cerium ions. The sorption mechanism was identified as ion exchange. The sorption kinetics and equilibrium isotherm followed the pseudo-second-order and Langmuir models, respectively. The composite sorbent demonstrated much higher sorption capacity compared to other sorbents in the literature. The best eluent for desorption was determined to be 0.1 M HNO3. Overall, the BC-AA-PA composite sorbent is recommended for lanthanide sorption from the liquid phase.

Cu- and Ce-promoted nano-heterostructures on vanadate catalysts for low-temperature NH3-SCR activity with improved SO2 and water resistance

Rahul Purbia et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a simple strategy for preparing vanadate-based catalysts with high NOx conversion efficiency and improved SO2 resistance by impregnating highly-dispersed CuO-CeO2 nano-heterostructures into V2O5-CeO2-WO3/TiO2 catalysts. The key design of the catalysts is to maximize interface chemistry between Cu and Ce species to achieve synergistic effects of catalytic and redox reactions.

Er composition (X)-mediated catalytic properties of Ce1-XErXVO4 surfaces for selective catalytic NOX reduction with NH3 at elevated temperatures

Jongsik Kim et al.

Summary: Rare earth metal vanadates have shown promise for converting NOX to N-2 at high temperatures, but face limitations in catalytic activity due to weak hydrothermal stability, low N-2 selectivity, and limited active sites. This study demonstrates the efficacy of structurally modifying vanadate with additional rare earth metals to generate bimetallic vanadates with improved reactivity and stability.

Construction of cerium oxide nanoparticles immobilized on the surface of zinc vanadate nanoflowers for accelerated photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline under visible light irradiation

Jin Luo et al.

Summary: The CeO2/Zn3V2O8 Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst exhibited significantly enhanced photocatalytic activity for the degradation of tetracycline under visible light irradiation, with the optimized hybrid showing a much higher degradation rate compared to single CeO2 and Zn3V2O8. The improved performance was attributed to the formation of Z-scheme heterojunction facilitating efficient transfer of photogenerated carriers and maintaining high reducibility and oxidizability of photoexcited electrons and holes in the photocatalyst.

Valence Regulation of Ultrathin Cerium Vanadate Nanosheets for Enhanced Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction to CO

Lujia Ding et al.

Summary: Atomic valence state regulation is a promising method for enhancing photocatalytic efficiency, as demonstrated by the fabrication of CeVO4 ultrathin nanosheets with precisely controlled Ce4+ and Ce3+ ion concentrations. This study revealed that the photocatalytic efficiency increases as the concentrations of intrinsic Ce4+ and Ce3+ ions decrease, leading to a significantly higher CO generation rate in the photocatalytic CO2 reduction process. These findings emphasize the importance of regulating atomic valence states for efficient photocatalysis.
