Mohammad Abdul Muqeet et al.

Summary: This study investigates the performance and feasibility of using glycerol and choline chloride-glycerol based deep eutectic solvent (DES) as entrainers in the extraction distillation process. The results show that DES as an entrainer can significantly reduce the total annual cost, CO2 emissions, and specific energy consumption, leading to a high energy-saving effect.

Phase behavior and internal micro mechanism of separation acetonitrile from water by hydrophobic green solvents

Zihao Su et al.

Summary: In this study, deep eutectic solvents (DESs) were used to treat azeotropic systems in acetonitrile wastewater. The performance of DESs in liquid-liquid equilibrium conditions was investigated through experiments and molecular dynamics simulations, confirming the feasibility of separating azeotropic mixtures using DESs and exploring the underlying mechanisms. The results showed that hydrophobic DESs had a good extraction effect on acetonitrile, with electrostatic force playing a leading role.

Summary: This paper discusses the separation of five azeotropic systems with different molecular weights through simulation and experiment. A stable PDMS/PVDF-PTFE membrane with favorable mechanical properties was prepared, and the dissolution and diffusion processes of the azeotropic systems were simulated. The separation performance of the membrane was investigated and validated through experimental results, demonstrating the accuracy of the simulation.

Summary: This study focuses on the separation of a ternary mixture using extractive distillation, with dimethyl sulfoxide as the optimal solvent. By introducing vapor recompressed heat pump technology and heat integration, significant energy savings were achieved. Direct extractive distillation was found to be better than indirect extractive distillation, with double-heat pump assisted direct extractive distillation showing the best performance in energy conservation and cost reduction.

Separation of Benzene-Cyclohexane Azeotropes Via Extractive Distillation Using Deep Eutectic Solvents as Entrainers

Fang Bai et al.

Summary: This study utilized deep eutectic solvents (DES) for the separation of benzene and cyclohexane azeotrope, successfully breaking the azeotrope with a relative volatility up to 4.763. The NRTL modeling approach was found to fit the experimental data well, and the mechanism from FT-IR suggested hydrogen bonding and pi-pi bond interactions as the key factors for breaking the azeotrope.

Summary: The study found that [EMIM][BF4] is the most promising drying agent due to its low Henry's law constant and high diffusion coefficient of H2O. By quantum chemistry calculations and molecular dynamics simulations, the microscopic mechanism was revealed, showing that [EMIM][BF4] has the strongest hydrogen bond interactions with H2O at the molecular level.
