Influence of electron-withdrawing groups in two-photon absorption of imidazopyridines derivatives

Andre Gasparotto Pelosi et al.

Summary: This work investigates the influence of different electron-withdrawing groups on the two-photon absorption cross-section of imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine derivatives. The study provides insights into achieving high optical nonlinearities in these derivatives by linking electron-withdrawing groups to the core. The results show that when two electron-withdrawing groups are attached to the imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine core, high two-photon absorption cross-sections can be achieved.

Two-photon brightness of highly fluorescent imidazopyridine derivatives: Two-photon and ultrafast transient absorption studies

Leandro H. Zucolotto Cocca et al.

Summary: Imidazopyridine derivatives, as unnatural purine isosteres, have attracted considerable attention due to their wide applicability in various scientific fields. They can be used as fluorescent bioprobes for DNA or RNA spectroscopic studies, and their optical properties can be enhanced by incorporating different structures in the central imidazopyridine scaffold. The research revealed high fluorescence quantum yields and two-photon absorption effects in certain imidazopyridine derivatives, indicating their potential as fluorescent probes induced by two-photon excitation.

Enhancement of optical properties of new purine nucleobases containing electron-donating and -withdrawing peripheral groups

Leandro H. Zucolotto Cocca et al.

Summary: Currently, there is a growing interest in synthesizing highly fluorescent unnatural base analogs to overcome the lack of fluorescence in natural nucleic acid bases. These fluorescent unnatural base analogs, such as purines, can be used in various applications, including DNA and RNA optical spectroscopy studies. Additionally, the optical properties of purines base analogs, such as emission, can be adjusted through molecular engineering, making them more efficient as fluorescent probes. A new set of purines base analogs has been synthesized and studied for its optical spectroscopic properties. Molecules with NH-pi-CN arrangement showed an increase in fluorescence quantum yield, and lower energy 2PA state exhibited higher two-photon absorption (2PA) cross-sections. The enhancement of both properties makes these purines base analogs promising candidates for fluorescent probes in RNA and DNA spectroscopic studies.

Summary: This study investigated the two-photon absorption of diphenylacetylene derivatives with electron-donating or electron-withdrawing groups using high-sensitivity optical-probing photoacoustic spectroscopy. The results showed that the nature of the substituent significantly affects the spectral properties of two-photon absorption, providing insights for a better understanding of this phenomenon.

Discovery of and insights into one-photon and two-photon excited ACQ-to-AIE conversion via positional isomerization

Xueting Long et al.

Summary: In this study, two positional isomers with different aggregation behaviors were designed and synthesized by changing the substituted position of perylenetetracarboxylic diimide and benzanthrone moieties. The meta-substituted product exhibited aggregation-caused quenching, while the ortho-substituted product showed aggregation-induced emission. The fluorescence enhancement effect for the ortho-substituted product was attributed to the restriction of intramolecular rotation and the excellent two-photon absorption performance.
