Manganite gamma-MnOOH nanobelts were successfully synthesized by the hydrothermal process using KMnO4 as oxidant and L-cysteine as reducing agent. The effects of the reaction time and hydrothermal temperature on the preparation of this material have been studied. The manganite nanoparticles were thoroughly characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermal analyses (TGA-DTA). The electrochemical properties of the product were investigated by cyclic voltammetry. The material exhibits stable and rectangular shaped cycles, implying a good reversibility of the diffusion process of lithium ion Li+ inside the modified electrode.
