Highly sensitive electrochemical sensor for the detection of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) using interdigitated micro-electrodes selectively modified with a chitosan-gold nanocomposite

Luiza A. Wasiewska et al.

Summary: This study presents a highly sensitive and label-free DNA-based sensor for the detection of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC). The sensor, built on fully integrated silicon chips with interdigitated gold microelectrodes (IDEs), showed a linear response in the range of 10-16 to 10-6 M and a low limit of detection of 100 aM. The selectivity of the sensor was confirmed using chromosomal DNA from different E. coli strains and other bacteria. The on-chip biosensor has the potential for point-of-use detection of STEC.

Evaluation and comparison of recombinase polymerase amplification coupled with lateral-flow bioassay for Escherichia coli O157:H7 detection using diifeerent genes

Summary: The study presents a rapid, simple, specific, sensitive, and portable method for detecting E. coli O157:H7 in food and water. Evaluating the effect of gene selection using rfbE, fliC, and stx gene targets, the method showed differences in detection limits and specificity. This RPA-LFA method could be a potential rapid and effective alternative to conventional methods for monitoring E. coli O157:H7 in food and water.

Optical fiber aptasensor for label-free bacteria detection in small volumes

Monika Janik et al.

Summary: A highly sensitive device based on a microcavity in-line Mach-Zehnder interferometer induced in an optical fiber has been developed for fast bacteria detection. This device, when combined with specific low-molecular-weight bioreceptors, can efficiently detect bacteria label-free with a detection capability as low as 10 colony-forming units per mL in a sample volume of only hundreds of picoliters. The sensor is one of the most sensitive and lowest-analyte-volume label-free biosensors among fiber optical platforms.
