Metabolic-Pathway-Based Subtyping of Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Reveals Potential Therapeutic Targets

Yue Gong et al.

Summary: This study investigated metabolic dysregulation in TNBCs using a multi-omics database, identifying three heterogeneous metabolic-pathway-based subtypes with distinct metabolic features. These subtypes had different prognoses, molecular subtype distributions, and genomic alterations, as well as varying sensitivities to metabolic inhibitors targeting fatty acid synthesis and glycolysis. Additionally, inhibition of lactate dehydrogenase could enhance tumor response to anti-PD-1 immunotherapy in specific TNBC subtypes.

Summary: The newly synthesized anticancer benzo[d]thiazolo[3,2-a]quinolin-10-ium derivatives exhibit potential high selectivity against four cancer cell lines in vitro, and their interaction with DNA was confirmed by a variety of spectroscopic methods. These compounds may serve as a novel scaffold for the future development of anticancer agents.

Intracellular Localization Studies of the Luminescent Analogue of an Anticancer Ruthenium Iminophosphorane with High Efficacy in a Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Mouse Model

Kirill Miachin et al.

Summary: The potential of ruthenium(II) compounds as an alternative to platinum-based clinical anticancer agents has been unveiled. Studies have shown that ruthenium compounds can be highly effective in treating cisplatin-resistant cell lines, including triple-negative breast cancer. Research indicates that certain ruthenium compounds with fluorophores have a preferential accumulation in the endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria, and lysosomes.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Exploring the Potential of Metallodrugs as Chemotherapeutics for Triple Negative Breast Cancer

Nazia Nayeem et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the potential of coordination and organometallic compounds as chemotherapeutics for triple negative breast cancer (TNBC), which has poor prognoses and survival rates compared to other types of breast cancer. The review lists references for metal-based compounds studied in TNBC cell lines and in vivo, and aims to highlight the most promising metal-based compounds with potential as chemotherapeutic agents for TNBC.

Investigation of the Effects and Mechanisms of Anticancer Action of a Ru(II)-Arene Iminophosphorane Compound in Triple Negative Breast Cancer Cells

Nazia Nayeem et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effects of a water-soluble organometallic ruthenium compound Ru-IM (1) on TNBC cell lines derived from patients of European and African ancestry, showing high cytotoxicity and potential anti-metastatic and anti-angiogenic properties. The compound was found to inhibit protein expression of cytokine M-CSF involved in the PI3/AKT pathway, and demonstrated a p53-independent mechanism of action.
