Development of a skin- and neuro-attenuated live vaccine for varicella

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: The article describes the rational design of a live-attenuated varicella vaccine candidate, v7D, which is severely impaired for infection of human skin and neuronal cells but retains immunogenicity in vitro and in animal models. The vaccine shows promise as a safer alternative to current varicella vaccines with reduced risk of complications.

Immunological characteristics of MAV/06 strain of varicella-zoster virus vaccine in an animal model

Duckhyang Shin et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the B and T cell immune response in animals inoculated with Oka and MAV/06 vaccines, as well as a new formulation of the MAV/06 vaccine. Various test methods were used to assess the immune response. The results showed that antibodies induced by the MAV/06 vaccine had immunogenicity against different varicella-zoster virus strains and cross-reactivity among them. Additionally, the MAV/06 vaccine increased VZV-specific T cell immune response through Th1 cell response.

Immunogenicity and safety profiles of a new MAV/06 strain varicella vaccine in healthy children: A multinational, multicenter, randomized, double-blinded, active-controlled phase III study

Ui Yoon Choi et al.

Summary: The study compared the immunogenicity and safety profiles of the new live attenuated MAV/06 strain varicella vaccine MG1111 with the control vaccine Varivax, and found that MG1111 was not statistically inferior to Varivax in terms of seroconversion rate and geometric mean titer. The safety profiles of MG1111 were also similar to Varivax.
