Tailoring of ZnFe2O4-ZrO2-based nanoarchitectures catalyst for supercapacitor electrode material and methanol oxidation reaction

Wang Jinxi et al.

Summary: In this study, ZnFe2O4-ZrO2 nanoparticles were synthesized through a simple hydrothermal method and used as a supporting material for Pt nanoparticles. The synthesized ZnFe2O4-ZrO2 and ZnFe2O4-ZrO2/Pt nanoarchitectures were employed as electrode materials for supercapacitor cells and as an electrocatalyst for the methanol oxidation reaction, respectively. The electrochemical characterizations showed improved performance with ZnFe2O4-ZrO2 supported Pt, including a higher peak current density and strong cycling stability. As a supercapacitor electrode, ZnFe2O4-ZrO2 exhibited high specific capacitance and excellent cycling stability. The outstanding electrochemical behavior of the ZnFe2O4-ZrO2 electrode was attributed to low charge resistance, ion diffusion resistance, and strong synergistic interaction between components. These findings open up new possibilities for nanoengineering metal-based nanoarchitectures for energy storage and conversion systems.

Catalyst-Support Interactions in Zr2ON2-Supported IrOx Electrocatalysts to Break the Trade-Off Relationship Between the Activity and Stability in the Acidic Oxygen Evolution Reaction

Changsoo Lee et al.

Summary: Researchers developed IrOx/Zr2ON2 electrocatalysts using Zr2ON2 as a support material, which effectively balances the activity and stability in the acidic oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The IrOx/Zr2ON2 electrocatalysts exhibited outstanding OER performances, with an overpotential of 255 mV at 10 mA cm(-2) and a mass activity of 849 mA mg(Ir)(-1) at 1.55 V. The improved activity and stability were attributed to the reduced oxidation state of Ir and the extended Ir-O bond distance, which altered the reaction pathway.

The spectroscopic quality factor, phase, morphological, structural, and photoluminescent analysis of ZrO2:Nd3+ coatings created by Plasma electrolytic oxidation

Aleksandar Ciric et al.

Summary: In this study, 15 μm thick ZrO2:Nd3+ coatings were synthesized using the plasma electrolytic oxidation process with the addition of different concentrations of Nd2O3 powders. The coatings exhibited morphologies characterized by numerous pores and cracks, with uniform distribution of coating constituents. The XRD analysis revealed the dominant monoclinic phase and the stabilization of the tetragonal phase by Nd impurity. The Nd2O3 concentration was found to have a linear effect on the incorporation of Nd in the coatings. Photoluminescence spectra showed near-infrared emissions at typical energies for Nd3+ ion, with the highest emission intensity observed at 2.0 g/L Nd2O3. A novel equation for calculating the spectroscopic quality factor from the most intense emissions was presented, showing that the coating with the highest photoluminescent intensity had the lowest spectroscopic quality factor. The luminescence intensity decreased with temperature due to the phonon-assisted cross-relaxation mechanism, and luminescence thermometry showed a relative sensitivity of about 2% K-1 in the temperature range of 300-380 K.

Persistent luminescence of ZrO2:Tb3+after beta particle irradiation for dosimetry applications

ChJ. Salas-Juarez et al.

Summary: In this study, we synthesized ZrO2:Tb3+ samples via a conventional solid-state reaction and investigated their Persistent Luminescence (PLUM) and performance in radiation dosimetry. X-ray diffraction confirmed the formation of monoclinic phase ZrO2 and the presence of Tb3+ ions and Tb2O3 in the samples. The PLUM response of the ZrO2:Tb3+ 1% sample was measured for 600 s after exposure to beta particle irradiation in the dose range of 0.5 to 256 Gy. The integrated area of the PLUM decay curves showed a sublinear dependence within the dose range of 0.5 to 64 Gy. The TL glow curve of the ZrO2: Tb3+ 1% sample exhibited two maxima at 79 and 150 degrees C, indicating that trapping states associated with the 79 degrees C maximum are responsible for the PLUM emission at room temperature. Computational deconvolution analysis revealed that the 79 degrees C maximum consisted of two traps with first-order kinetics. These results suggest that the ZrO2:Tb3+ 1% sample holds potential as a dosimeter for beta particle irradiation.
