Emission Spectroscopy Investigation of the Enhancement of Carrier Collection Efficiency in AgBiS2-Nanocrystal/ZnO-Nanowire Heterojunction Solar Cells

Summary: This study fabricated eco-friendly solar cells using interdigitated layers consisting of ZnO nanowires and infrared absorbing AgBiS2 nanocrystals. The quality of ZnO nanowires and its defects affecting solar cell performance were investigated. Oxygen vacancies and Zn interstitial sites were identified as the main recombination sites, hindering carrier collection in the solar cells. By reducing the concentration of these defects, the structural order and electron-phonon interaction in ZnO nanowires were improved. Furthermore, the study emphasized the significance of reducing defects in ZnO for improving not only colloidal quantum dot solar cells but also other emerging solar cell technologies.

2D/3D WO3/BiVO4 heterostructures for efficient photoelectrocatalytic water splitting

Summary: In this study, a novel mixed-dimensional structured photoanode was developed by grafting 3D worm-like BiVO4 onto a 2D thin WO3 underlayer, resulting in enhanced photocatalytic activity and charge separation efficiency. The doping of W6+ in WO3 contributes to increased electrical conductivity of the photoanode, while a robust NiCo2Ox catalyst coating provides excellent stability and high photocurrent density, making the 2D/3D WO3/BiVO4 photoanode a promising material for practical applications.

Efficiency improvement of perovskite solar cells by charge transport balancing using length tunable ZnO nanorods and optimized perovskite morphology

Summary: In this study, well-aligned ZnO nanorods with tunable length were successfully deposited and utilized in solar cells, balancing charge transport by adjusting the nanorod length and improving the morphology of the perovskite layer. The photovoltaic characteristics of the cells improved with increasing nanorod length up to 460 nm, but deteriorated further. Doping the perovskite structure with Cl- ions improved film uniformity and charge transport.
