Mechanochemical synthesis of ternary heterojunctions TiO2(A)/TiO2(R)/ZnO and TiO2(A)/TiO2(R)/SnO2 for effective charge separation in semiconductor photocatalysis: A comparative study

M. L. Aruna Kumari et al.

Summary: TiO2, ZnO, and SnO2 metal oxides were synthesized and heterojunctions were fabricated by combining TiO2 with either ZnO or SnO2 in a 1:1 ratio using mechanochemical ball milling process. The ternary heterojunctions showed enhanced photocatalytic activity, with TiO2(A)/TiO2(R)/ZnO heterojunction attributed to the formation of Ti3+-V-o defect states leading to efficient charge carrier separation. The ball milling process resulted in severe crystal deformation in TiO2 and ZnO lattices, creating crystal lattice distortion and defects due to valency mismatch between Ti4+ and Zn2+.

Growth and exploration of visible-light-driven enhanced photocatalytic activity of Cu1-XCrxS/CdS heterojunction thin film for active dye degradation

Vishnu V. Kutwade et al.

Summary: A metal chalcogenide-based heterojunction thin film has been successfully fabricated using a one-step, low-cost chemical bath deposition technique. The Cu1-xCrxS layer deposited on CdS thin films showed improved crystallinity and optical properties, resulting in enhanced photocatalytic activity for the degradation of methylene blue dye. The cascade-like band structure between CdS and CuS further enhanced the photocatalytic performance. The nanosheet-like morphology of CdS thin film provided a large surface area and a high number of active sites, contributing to the performance enhancement of the heterojunction thin film.
