Wenbin Liu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a synergetic strategy to address the contradiction between piezoelectric performance and temperature stability in PZT-based piezoelectric ceramics by introducing lead vacancies through niobium doping and constructing a morphotropic phase boundary. By designing the PBZTN-x material system, good comprehensive properties and excellent temperature stability were achieved in the PBZTN-0.540 ceramics.

Cu-modified Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbZrO3-PbTiO3 textured ceramics with enhanced electromechanical properties and improved thermal stability

Linjing Liu et al.

Summary: Grain-oriented Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O-3-PbZrO3-PbTiO3 (PMN-PZ-PT) ceramics with CuO doping exhibited improved electromechanical properties and thermal stability compared to non-textured counterparts. The addition of CuO promoted [001](c)-oriented grain growth, resulting in higher Lotgering factor and reduced average domain size. This work provides a good example for high piezoelectric response and temperature stability in piezoceramics.

High-performance and high-thermally stable PSN-PZT piezoelectric ceramics achieved by high-temperature poling

Zhengran Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, high piezoelectric properties and superior thermal stability were achieved by high-temperature poling in a 0.4 mol% ZnO-doped ceramic material. The high-temperature poling method formed a small-sized and highly oriented domain structure, effectively improving the piezoelectric and dielectric properties. The enhanced pinning effect of defect ions and stabilized domain structure due to high-temperature poling also contributed to the superior temperature stability of the piezoelectric and dielectric properties.

Near-ideal electromechanical coupling in textured piezoelectric ceramics

Yongke Yan et al.

Summary: This study presents an optimization strategy for the electromechanical coupling factor, k, in piezoelectric materials by texturing and covalency tuning. The results show that the k values achieved are comparable to those of single crystals. Through experimental and phase field simulation methods, the researchers demonstrate that the k value can reach the level of single crystals, far exceeding the average value of traditional ceramics. Additionally, a theoretical model reveals that the physical origin of k in perovskite ferroelectrics is mainly attributed to the strong covalent bonding between B-site cation and oxygen via d-p hybridization. The demonstration of near-ideal k values in textured ceramics has significant implications for the design of ultra-wide bandwidth, high efficiency, high power density, and high stability piezoelectric devices.
