The effect of densification on physical and mechanical properties of bamboo Dendrocalamus asper

Arash Azadeh et al.

Summary: This study assessed the physical and mechanical properties of laminated and densified bamboo elements for structural panels. It was found that densification to 34% significantly improves the modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity, but sacrifices dimensional stability. Furthermore, retaining the bamboo skin has a positive impact on the analysis and reduces production costs.

Effect of superheated steam pressure on the physical and mechanical properties of sandwich-densified wood

Elin Xiang et al.

Summary: An environmentally friendly modification technology combining controllable densification and superheated steam treatment was used to process fast-growing wood into a sandwich-densified structural material. The study investigated the effects of densified layer position and superheated steam pressure on the properties of the wood. The results showed that sandwich-densified wood with different structural modes can be formed, and the mechanical properties and dimensional stability were significantly improved.

Molecularly Engineered Lignin-Derived Additives Enable Fire-Retardant, UV-Shielding, and Mechanically Strong Polylactide Biocomposites

Haitang Yang et al.

Summary: This study successfully designed lignin-derived multifunctional bioadditives (TP-g-lignin) with tunable chemical compositions through graft polymerization, achieving a balanced combination of flame retardancy, UV resistance, and mechanical strength in PLA composites. The incorporation of 5.0 wt % of TP-g-lignin enabled PLA to meet the UL-94 V-0 industrial standard for flame retardancy, while also improving UV-shielding capability and increasing elastic modulus.
