The Influence of Negative Voltage on Corrosion Behavior of Ceramic Coatings Prepared by MAO Treatment on Steel

Mingzhe Xiang et al.

Summary: In this study, micro-arc oxidation (MAO) was used to treat 10B21 steel and enhance its corrosion resistance. The effect of negative voltage on the MAO coating's corrosion resistance was analyzed, and it was found that -100 V is the optimum voltage for improving the coating's corrosion resistance.

Single Dense Layer of PEO Coating on Aluminum Fabricated by Chain-like Discharges

Liye Zhu et al.

Summary: Reducing the loose-layer-to-dense-layer ratio in PEO coatings is crucial for improving corrosion resistance and expanding applications. This study investigates the discharge evolution during the PEO process and discovers a novel chain-like discharge. The microstructure and composition of the coatings are analyzed, and the electrochemical behavior and adhesion strength are evaluated. A mechanism explaining the influence of the plasma spark discharge state on the coatings is proposed.

Micro-arc oxidation enhances the wear resistance and corrosion resistance of oil-water separating mesh

Bowen Xue et al.

Summary: Ceramic coatings were prepared on the surface of Al mesh using the micro-arc oxidation (MAO) method, which showed excellent wear resistance and corrosion resistance. The coating had a protective effect on salt spray corrosion and mass loss at high temperature, and improved the wear resistance of the aluminum mesh. After oil heating treatment, the MAO Al mesh maintained oleophilic and hydrophobic properties, making it suitable for oil-water separation. This method has a simple preparation process, low cost, and excellent performance, with wide applications in oil spill cleanup, wastewater treatment, and water purification.

Influences of Growth Species and Inclusions on the Current-Voltage Behavior of Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation: A Review

Dah-Shyang Tsai et al.

Summary: Researchers have enriched the technical connotation of PEO and adopted foreign electrolyte additives to improve surface protection for anodizing. Understanding softening sparks has led to the realization that cathodic current can control discharge intensity by twisting coating conductivity deviations. Further studies on the influences of inclusion of exotic additives are expected to lead to precise control of micro arc.

Toward rational design of ceramic coatings generated on valve metals by plasma electrolytic oxidation: The role of cathodic polarisation

Aleksey B. Rogov et al.

Summary: The study compares PEO processes on different valve metals, finding that soft sparking is a characteristic feature of metals like Mg, Al, Zr, and Ta. Ti and Nb form semiconducting oxides that do not fully exhibit soft sparking characteristics. In light of this, a 'digital twin' model for deposition of functional ceramics using PEO processes is proposed.

Corrosion and wear resistance of micro-arc oxidation coating on glass microsphere reinforced Mg alloy composite

Lin Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, MAO coatings were prepared on a novel glass microsphere reinforced Mg alloy composite to retard degradation in Cl- containing liquid environment. The current density significantly influenced the thickness and structure of the coatings, subsequently impacting their properties. Suitable current density improved corrosion and wear resistance of the coatings, while excessive current density led to increased friction coefficient and deteriorated corrosion resistance.
