Production of Environmentally Friendly Concrete Incorporating Bauxite Residue and Silica Fume

Mansour Ghalehnovi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of red mud (RM) and silica fume (SF) as cement replacements on concrete properties. The results show that the use of RM and SF can partially address the issue of resource waste and environmental pollution in concrete production. It is found that the simultaneous application of 20% RM and 5% SF as cement replacement yields the same strength as the reference, while the mix made with 10% RM and 7.5% SF achieves the highest consolidated performance score.

Machine learning-based compressive strength modelling of concrete incorporating waste marble powder

Elyas Asadi Shamsabadi et al.

Summary: In recent years, the increase in waste marble powder from ornamental stone factories has raised concerns about environmental pollution. However, the lack of comprehensive understanding of how marble powder affects the engineering properties of concrete has limited its application in the concrete industry. This study explores the use of machine learning to model the compressive strength of concrete incorporating marble powder. The results show that marble powder can improve concrete performance, but its incorporation rate needs to be limited.

Effects of binders characteristics and concrete dosing parameters on the chloride diffusion coefficient

Daniel V. Ribeiro et al.

Summary: Corrosion in reinforced concrete structures is a serious issue, primarily influenced by carbonation and chlorides. It has been found that factors such as water/binder ratio, cement aluminate content, and fineness significantly affect chloride diffusion, rather than the water/cement ratio.

Bar surface treatment effect on the bond-slip behavior and mechanism of basalt FRP bars embedded in concrete

Mohamed F. M. Fahmy et al.

Summary: This study examined the bond-slip behavior of BFRP bars with different surface treatments, showing that the surface treatment significantly affects bond behavior and results in different failure mechanisms and behaviors. Increasing concrete compressive strength enhances bond strength with minimal effects on other bond-slip characteristics. Furthermore, the bond-slip relationship of wounded BFRP bars is heavily reliant on the geometric details of the bar surface profile.
