Porous plasticity revisited: Macroscopic and multiscale modeling

Gilles Rousselier

Summary: The paper compares the mechanical behaviors of the GTN model and the Rousselier model, revealing their different performances in strain localization, as well as discussing issues related to void growth and finite element discretization. The GTN model is unable to achieve plane strain localization under certain stress conditions, while the Rousselier model is capable of achieving this goal under all stress conditions.

Summary: This study examined the behavior of double-chamber AA6063 and AA6082 aluminum profiles under quasi-static and dynamic axial crushing, revealing that higher pre-stretch resulted in a more ductile material with slightly lower ultimate tensile strength. Dynamic loading was found to cause a larger amount of fracture compared to quasi-static loading through visual inspection and X-ray Computed Tomography scans.

Summary: Coarse grains result in fewer voids on fracture surfaces and higher flow strength, while finer grains accelerate the occurrence of shear-dominated fracture and hinder normal tensile fracture. By introducing shear factor and size effect, the modified GTN-Thomason criterion predicts ductile fracture in micro-scaled plastic deformation and enhances understanding and prediction of ductile fracture.
