STAN: spatio-temporal attention network for pandemic prediction using real-world evidence

Junyi Gao et al.

Summary: The study aimed to develop a hybrid model for predicting the number of infected cases in pandemics by integrating patients' claims data, demographic similarity, geographical proximity, and pandemic transmission dynamics into a deep learning model. The proposed spatio-temporal attention network (STAN) outperformed traditional epidemiological and deep learning models in predicting disease dynamics, achieving a significant reduction in mean squared error on both long-term and short-term predictions. STAN showed the potential to better forecast disease status and medical resource utilization through the combination of real-world claims data and disease case counts data.

STGSN - A Spatial-Temporal Graph Neural Network framework for time-evolving social networks

Shengjie Min et al.

Summary: Social Network Analysis has been widely used for intelligence gathering and criminal investigation by law enforcement agencies. Recent studies have focused on the application of Graph Neural Networks to solve social network problems, but there is a lack of research on time-evolving social networks, especially in the criminology field.

Data-driven dynamic bottleneck detection in complex manufacturing systems

Xingjian Lai et al.

Summary: A systematic approach for bottleneck detection in complex manufacturing systems is proposed, extending a well-recognized algorithm and evaluating several common industrial scenarios including closed loop structures, parallel line structures, and rework loop structures. The methodology is demonstrated with a successful pilot study at an automotive powertrain assembly line, resulting in over 30% gain in Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
