Surface hardness, thermal, optical, and photon attenuation coefficients assessment for dysprosium-doped tellurite glasses

Hesham M. H. Zakaly et al.

Summary: Dy2O3-doped tellurite glasses were produced using a melt-cooling process with the host glass. The glass samples were analyzed by X-ray diffraction and found to be amorphous. The thermal properties of the glass samples were evaluated using differential scanning calorimetry, and the optical data showed a narrowing of the tails in the forbidden gap with increasing Dy2O3 content. The addition of Dy2O3 increased the glass density and resulted in stronger radiation shielding characteristics.

A. S. Abouhaswa et al.

Summary: A series of bismuth-borate glass samples doped with TiO2 were fabricated and investigated for their physical, optical, and mechanical properties, as well as their gamma and neutron shielding capabilities. The addition of TiO2 increased the density of the glass samples, decreased their molar volume, and enhanced their absorbance. These glass samples demonstrate utility for diagnostic gamma shielding and their properties make them effective in protecting humans from UV light.

T. S. Soliman et al.

Summary: This study aimed to synthesize BaTiO3 nanocrystalline particles using the tartrate precursor process, and then prepare nanocomposite films with PVA. Analysis using XRD and FTIR showed complex interactions between BaTiO3 nanoparticles and the PVA matrix. As the concentration of BaTiO3 nanoparticles in the PVA matrix increased, the optical band gap decreased while the Urbach energy increased.

Enhancing the optical absorption, conductivity, and nonlinear parameters of PVOH films by Bi-doping

H. Elhosiny Ali et al.

Summary: A new polymeric nanocomposite film of PVOH embedded with Bi-nanoparticles was studied using scanning electron microscopy and x-ray diffractometer. The optical bandgap transitions were found to decrease with the increase of Bi percentage in the matrix, while other optical properties such as Urbach energy, extinction coefficient, refractive index, and optical conductivity increased. Nonlinear optical refractive index and susceptibility were calculated using a single-oscillator model, and the optical limiting characteristic was tested using a green laser source. These results offer potential applications in optical Cut-Off and nonlinear optical fields.
