Synthesis and photodynamic effect of 3-substituted methyl pyropheophorbide-a derivatives as novel photodynamic therapeutic agents for cancer treatment

Tae Heon Lee et al.

Summary: The unique ability of chlorophyll derivatives to accumulate in tumor tissues and cause a photodynamic effect under laser radiation has been successfully used in photodynamic therapy. Previous research on modified peripheral substituents in chlorophyll has shown that the presence and position of substituents in chlorin derivatives significantly affect biological activities. The synthesized MPPa derivatives with heterocyclic aromatic substituents or pyrazole moieties on the peripheral positions demonstrated photodynamic therapy effects in both in vitro and in vivo studies.

A novel method for synthesizing manganese dioxide nanoparticles using diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid as a metal ion chelator

Yong Geun Lim et al.

Summary: A new method for synthesizing MnO2 NPs using diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid as a metal ion chelator was proposed in this study. The NPs exhibited high stability and storage stability, and could rapidly degrade in the presence of hydrogen peroxide while generating oxygen. This synthesis method may be widely applied to produce new types of MnO2 NPs using various metal chelators.
