Responses of spring soil moisture of different land use types to snow cover in Northeast China under climate change background

Yanxin Li et al.

Summary: This study explores the relationship between snow cover and spring soil moisture in different land use types in Northeast China. The results show that snow cover significantly impacts farmland soil moisture, while there is little correlation between snow cover parameters and soil moisture in woodlands and grasslands. Future climate warming may introduce drought risk to woodland and grassland areas, requiring advance preparations, while farmland areas will continue to maintain appropriate soil moisture, which is beneficial for agricultural development.

Yangxiaoyue Liu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the Fengyun-3B ascending and descending orbit soil moisture retrievals have higher spatial coverage percentages and a higher temporal coverage percentage in summer at 20-60 degrees N and 20-50 degrees S. The soil moisture products derived from both Fengyun-3B and -3C satellites show superior goodness of fit and smaller bias in in-situ measurements in the northern hemisphere.

Assessment of SMOS and SMAP soil moisture products against new estimates combining physical model, a statistical model, and in-situ observations: A case study over the Huai River Basin, China

Xiaoyi Wang et al.

Summary: Soil moisture plays a critical role in global water and energy cycles, and recent satellite missions have provided opportunities for quasi-global monitoring of soil moisture. Post-processing of the CLDAS soil moisture product using a BPNN method has shown to reduce errors and maintain temporal correlations with in-situ observations in the highly irrigated Huai River Basin. The evaluations of the four satellite-derived soil moisture products revealed differences in spatial patterns and seasonal variations, with SMAP retrievals recommended for locations with valid SMOS and SMAP retrievals.
