Characterization of Cerebral Hemodynamics with TCD in Patients Undergoing VA-ECMO and VV-ECMO: a Prospective Observational Study

The results suggest similar flow velocity and pulsatility index compared to a healthy population, but the absence of pulsatility index is associated with intraparenchymal hemorrhage. Revise the Uniform Determination of Death Act to Align the Law With Practice Through Neurorespiratory Criteria

Summary: The Uniform Determination of Death Act (UDDA) has been a model statute for 40 years, but there is a growing recognition that it needs to be updated, especially in terms of aligning the legal criteria for determining death with the medical standards. This article argues for revising the UDDA to specify neurorespiratory criteria, which include permanent loss of consciousness, ability to breathe spontaneously, and brainstem reflexes, as the criteria for determining death.

Early experience with donation after circulatory death heart transplantation using normothermic regional perfusion in the United States

Summary: The feasibility of a donation after circulatory death (DCD) heart transplantation protocol using cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) for normothermic regional reperfusion (NRP) was evaluated in this pilot study. The study showed excellent outcomes of DCD heart transplantation, indicating the potential for wider adoption of the DCD protocol and increased availability of donor hearts in the United States.
