Constructing a ZnO/CuCo2O4 p-n heterojunction photocatalyst for efficiently hexavalent chromium-phenol detoxification and nitrogen fixation

Sattam Fahad Almojil et al.

Summary: The design of low-cost, recyclable, high-efficiency, and visible light-based photocatalytic systems is considered a potential new green approach to address environmental challenges. This study synthesized a ZnO/CuCo2O4 nanocomposite and evaluated its photocatalytic activity for ammonia production, chromium photo-reduction, and phenol photo-oxidation. The nanocomposite showed better performance due to the presence of oxygen vacancy and heterojunction interface.

Comparative Toxicity Analyses from Different Endpoints: Are New Cyclic Disinfection Byproducts (DBPs) More Toxic than Common Aliphatic DBPs?

Yun Wu et al.

Summary: The study compared the in vitro and in vivo toxicity of cyclic DBPs and aliphatic DBPs, revealing different toxicity rank orders with application of different endpoints. A Pearson correlation analysis of DBP toxicity data showed high correlation between observed cytotoxicity in Hep G2 cells and zebrafish embryo toxicity with previously reported in vitro and in vivo toxicity. The study also established two QSAR models to interpret the toxicity mechanisms of DBPs from different endpoints.

In-situ synthesis of a novel ZnO/CuCo2S4 p-n heterojunction photocatalyst with improved phenol and rhodamine B degradation performance and investigating the mechanism of charge carrier separation

Yan Cao et al.

Summary: In this study, a ZnO/CuCo2S4 n-n heterojunction nanocomposite was successfully synthesized, leading to enhanced photocatalytic performance of ZnO. The prepared photocatalyst provided more reaction active sites, excited semiconductors in the visible region, and increased the separation and transport of charge carriers. The narrow band gap of CuCo2S4 enabled light absorption in the higher wavelength range and suppressed the recombination of electron-hole pairs.

Selective formation of reactive oxygen species in peroxymonosulfate activation by metal-organic framework-derived membranes: A defect engineering-dependent study

Mohua Li et al.

Summary: Defect engineering is an effective method to understand the relationship between structure and catalytic activities of transition metal oxides. In this study, a novel strategy was developed to control the oxygen vacancy levels and modify the surface chemistry of a catalytic membrane. The increased number of Lewis acid sites in the membrane resulted in enhanced catalytic activities.

Xinyang Li et al.

Summary: Yb-doped Bi2WO6 nanomaterials were synthesized successfully and showed higher photocatalytic activity compared to pristine Bi2WO6, attributed to the introduction of more oxygen vacancies and superoxide anion active groups. Introducing oxygen vacancies to enhance photocatalytic performance is an effective strategy for developing visible light photocatalysts.
