Head and Neck Cancers, Version 1.2022 Featured Updates to the NCCN Guidelines

Jimmy J. Caudell et al.

Summary: The NCCN Guidelines for Head and Neck Cancers provide clinical treatment guidance for tumors in the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, and paranasal sinuses, as well as occult primary cancer, salivary gland cancer, and mucosal melanoma. The treatment recommendations are based on the specific site of disease, stage, and pathological findings, and are continuously updated with new research data.

An integrated approach to uncover anti-tumor active materials of Curcumae Rhizoma-Sparganii Rhizoma based on spectrum-effect relationship, molecular docking, and ADME evaluation

Xiao-Yun Liu et al.

Summary: The study aimed to uncover the anti-tumor active materials of Curcumae Rhizoma-Sparganii Rhizoma water decoction via spectrum-effect relationship, molecular docking, and ADME evaluation. The results showed that the combination of Curcumae Rhizoma and Sparganii Rhizoma in 80% ethanol elution fraction had strong anti-tumor effects. Twenty-four compounds were identified to have potential anti-tumor effects, with five compounds validated experimentally to have good tumor inhibition effects. This study provided a rapid and useful strategy to explore the active material basis of traditional Chinese herbal couples using a multi-technology integrated approach.

Sparganii Rhizoma: A review of traditional clinical application, processing, phytochemistry, pharmacology, and toxicity

Jia Jia et al.

Summary: Sparganii Rhizoma (SR), a traditional Chinese medicine, has been used for hundreds of years to treat gynecological disorders such as dysmenorrhea, abdominal masses, amenorrhea due to blood stasis, and abdominal distension. Through processing, SR can enhance its pharmacological effects. Research has shown that SR has various pharmacological activities, with potential for new drug development, but further research is needed on quality control, pharmacological mechanisms, and toxicological effects.

Inhibition of Fibroblast Activation in Uterine Leiomyoma by Components of Rhizoma Curcumae and Rhizoma Sparganii

Yewen Feng et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that RCRS effectively reduces the expression of collagen, FAP, and transforming growth factor beta in rats with uterine leiomyoma. Additionally, RCRS inhibits the cell proliferation pathway, suggesting its potential mechanisms of action in preventing and treating uterine leiomyoma.

MMP-9 Knockdown Inhibits Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma Lymph Node Metastasis in the Nude Mouse Tongue-Xenografted Model through the RhoC/Src Pathway

Panpan Yin et al.

Summary: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a common cancer in developing countries, with high mortality due to early metastasis. MMP-9 plays a key role in tumor invasion and metastasis. Knockdown of MMP-9 can suppress OSCC cell migration, proliferation, interactions with endothelial cells, tumor growth, and metastasis, potentially mediated through RhoC and Src gene expression.

Terpenoids from Curcumae Rhizoma: Their anticancer effects and clinical uses on combination and versus drug therapies

Yi Chen et al.

Summary: Cancer, a fatal disease with no known cure, has prompted research into traditional Chinese medicine for potential anticancer agents. Compounds like beta-elemene from Curcumae Rhizoma have shown promise as potential anticancer drugs, with ongoing clinical trials showing positive results. This review highlights the efficacy of Curcumae Rhizoma and its terpenoids in cancer therapy, offering potential for the development of new anticancer drugs.

Study on the Molecular Mechanism of the Herbal Couple Sparganii Rhizoma-Curcumae Rhizoma in the Treatment of Lung Cancer Based on Network Pharmacology

Shuying Dai et al.

Summary: Through network pharmacology, it was revealed that Sparganii Rhizoma-Curcumae Rhizoma has antitumor effects on lung cancer by promoting caspase-dependent cell apoptosis pathways. The active components in the herbal combination show good affinity with target proteins, supporting the traditional Chinese medicine theory of treating qi deficiency and blood stasis-related syndromes.
