Acoustic radiation force and torque on spheroidal particles in an ideal cylindrical chambera)

Jose P. Leao-Neto et al.

Summary: This article theoretically investigates the acoustic radiation force and torque on a small spheroidal particle in a nonviscous fluid inside an ideal cylindrical chamber. Analytical expressions for the radiation force and torque caused by an acoustic wave of arbitrary shape are presented, and the behavior of an elongated metallic microspheroid in a half-wavelength acoustofluidic chamber is analyzed. The results show alignment and translational motion effects on the microspheroid caused by the radiation torque and force.

Controlled orientation and sustained rotation of biological samples in a sono-optical microfluidic device

Mia Kvale Lovmo et al.

Summary: Recent advancements in cell biology research have shown that suspended cell clusters, such as organoids or cancer spheroids, have greater potential compared to traditional 2D cell cultures. However, sample confinement has been found to significantly impact cell clusters, leading to a demand for contact-less tools for 3D manipulation and inspection. This study introduces a reconfigurable, hybrid sono-optical system for contact-free 3D manipulation and imaging, suitable for biological samples in liquid suspension.

Bubbles in microfluidics: an all-purpose tool for micromanipulation

Yuyang Li et al.

Summary: The integration of microfluidic devices and various actuation technologies has significantly advanced related fields in recent decades. Microbubbles are increasingly important in microfluidics due to their unique characteristics and specific responses to different energy sources and gas-liquid interactions. Effective bubble-based micromanipulation strategies have enabled non-invasive, selective, and precise operations at the microscale.

Ultrabright Entangled-Photon-Pair Generation from an AlGaAs-On-Insulator Microring Resonator

Trevor J. Steiner et al.

Summary: A novel ultralow-loss AlGaAs-on-insulator platform has been demonstrated to generate time-energy entangled photons in a Q > 1 million microring resonator, with nearly 1000-fold improvement in brightness compared to existing sources. The waveguide-integrated source exhibits an internal generation rate greater than 20 x 10(9) pairs s(-1) mW(-2), emits near 1550 nm, produces heralded single photons with > 99% purity, and violates Bell's inequality by more than 40 standard deviations with visibility > 97%. These features make it an essential component for a scalable quantum photonic platform.
