Simultaneous isolation and selective encapsulation of volatile compounds from essential oil during electrospraying of β-Cyclodextrin

Merve Deniz Kose et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a new technique to stabilize bioactive volatile compounds in essential oils for enhanced stability as chemical raw materials. Through selective isolation and encapsulation by changing electrospraying parameters, inclusion complexes between beta-cyclodextrin and volatile compounds were formed. Experimental data confirmed successful isolation and encapsulation of various volatile compounds from labdanum essential oil, with an average nanoparticle size between 25-160 nm.

Encapsulation of Rosmarinus officinalis essential oil in β-cyclodextrins

Sara El Kharraf et al.

Summary: This study investigated the encapsulation process of rosemary essential oil in beta cyclodextrin using response surface methodology. The optimal parameters for encapsulation were determined by the model, and the size of the inclusion complexes was found to be the largest under specific experimental conditions. Analysis through FTIR and XRD techniques confirmed the successful encapsulation process.

Volatile Profile of Portuguese Monofloral Honeys: Significance in Botanical Origin Determination

Alexandra M. Machado et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the volatile profiles of 51 samples from 12 different monofloral-labelled Portuguese honey types using two extraction methods. Hydrodistillation was found to be more effective in extracting volatiles. The honey volatiles were grouped into two main clusters and further divided into nine sub-clusters.

Synthesis and Characterization of beta-Cyclodextrin-Essential Oil Inclusion Complexes for Tick Repellent Development

Jennifer Hogenbom et al.

Summary: This study investigated the formation of inclusion complexes of beta-cyclodextrin with selected essential oils known for their tick repellent activity using two co-precipitation methods. The results demonstrated significant tick repellent activity of the inclusion complexes, with lemongrass complex performing the best. This research suggests that the formation of inclusion complexes can enhance essential oils' tick repellent properties and protect active ingredients for better and longer-lasting repellent action.

Preparation and characterization of a sustained-release bio-preservative based on β-cyclodextrin encapsulated eugenol

Chan Bai et al.

Summary: A sustained-release bio-preservative based on beta-cyclodextrin encapsulated eugenol was prepared through electron beam irradiation, optimized using response surface methodology with a Box-Behnken design to achieve high encapsulation efficiency. The inclusion complex showed enhanced stability and solubility of eugenol, prolonging the shelf life of weevers and maintaining food quality. Overall, the EU/beta-CD-g-AM inclusion complex is a promising approach for sustained-release preservation in food.
