Application of gas chromatography coupled to triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (GC-(APCI)MS/MS) in determination of PCBs (mono-to deca-) and PCDD/Fs in Chinese mitten crab food webs

Xiaomin Li et al.

Summary: In this study, GC-(APCI)MS/MS technology was used for isotope-dilution analysis of PCBs and PCDD/Fs, with optimized instrument parameters, low detection limits, and good correlation with HRGC/HRMS results. The presence of abundant light PCBs in aquatic food webs, particularly the dominant PCB congener PCB11, suggests that more attention should be paid to low-weight PCB congeners in the future.

Occurrence, patterns, and sources of hazardous organic chemicals in edible insects and insect-based food from the Japanese market

Giulia Poma et al.

Summary: This study investigated the contamination levels and sources of organophosphorus flame retardants, plasticizers, and persistent organic pollutants in insect foods available on the Japanese market. The results suggest that the contaminants were mainly accumulated by the insects during rearing or from the wild environment, rather than from food contact materials.

Persistent organic pollutant (POPs) concentrations from great-winged petrels nesting in Western Australia

Morgan E. Gilmour et al.

Summary: Studies on greatwinged petrels in southern Western Australia revealed the presence of persistent organic pollutants such as organochlorine pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls, and novel brominated flame retardants. This adds valuable data to the limited POPs information available for marine fauna in remote regions, indicating that even remote areas are impacted by global trends of POPs distributions.
