Spatial distribution of wave-by-wave overtopping behind vertical seawall with recurve retrofitting

S. Dong et al.

Summary: Understanding the spatial distribution of wave overtopping water behind coastal protection structures is crucial for assessing coastal safety. This study conducted laboratory experiments to investigate wave overtopping volume behind plain vertical seawalls and seawalls with recurve retrofitting, under different hydrodynamic conditions. The findings showed that increasing relative freeboard reduces the hazard zone and recurve retrofitting is more effective in reducing the hazard zone length under impulsive wave conditions.

Wave Impact Loads on Vertical Seawalls: Effects of the Geometrical Properties of Recurve Retrofitting

Shudi Dong et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of geometrical configurations of recurve retrofits on wave impact loads on a vertical seawall. The results show that an increase in recurve height and overhang length leads to an increase in horizontal impact force, as well as significant increases in wave loading for higher recurve retrofits. Additionally, changes in the overturning moment are limited for retrofits with longer overhang length, providing valuable insights for coastal engineers and infrastructure designers.

Coastal Structures as Beach Erosion Control and Sea Level Rise Adaptation in Malaysia: A Review

Ahmad Hadi Mohamed Rashidi et al.

Summary: The shoreline of Malaysia is facing threats of coastal erosion and sea-level rise. The National Coastal Erosion Study, 2015 reported that 15% of the 8840 km shoreline is currently eroding. The Study of Sea Level Rise in Malaysia, 2017 presented an average yearly sea-level increase of 0.67-0.74 mm. Hard structures and adaptation approaches are effective protection measures.

Eco-Engineering of Seawalls-An Opportunity for Enhanced Climate Resilience From Increased Topographic Complexity

Md Salauddin et al.

Summary: In the field of green coastal engineering, the concept of eco-engineering involves incorporating ecological concepts into traditional marine infrastructure design to reduce wave overtopping and coastal flood risks while promoting biodiversity. Studies have shown that increasing the roughness of seawalls through eco-engineering interventions can significantly decrease wave overtopping, highlighting the potential for eco-engineering to mitigate extreme wave overtopping hazards.

A DSAS-based study of central shoreline change in Jiangsu over 45 years

Yuan Song et al.

Summary: A large-scale sand ridge group and deposition muddy sea bank are distributed in the central Jiangsu coastal area. Quantitative monitoring of coastline changes using DSAS indicates that the shorelines in the study area maintained fluctuating growth and continuous advancing trend towards the sea. The average shoreline change rate was 207 m/year, with peak change degrees in the periods of 1983-1993 and 1993-2013.
