Land misallocation and urban air quality in China

Jianjiang Liu et al.

Summary: This study reveals that local governments in China tend to allocate urban construction land to the industrial sector in order to maximize financial revenue and political achievements, leading to land misallocation, hindering industrial structure upgrading, and impacting air quality negatively. Moreover, larger cities exhibit lesser inhibiting effects of land misallocation on industrial structure upgrading.
