Antibacterial Activity and Biofilm Inhibition of New-Generation Hybrid/Fluoride-Releasing Restorative Materials

Sevil Gurgan et al.

Summary: The antibacterial activity and the effect of additional topical fluoride on bacterial activity, biofilm formation, and surface roughness of new-generation hybrid/fluoride-releasing materials were investigated. It was found that these materials did not exhibit any antibacterial activity and the application of additional topical fluoride did not have a significant effect on their performance. However, there were differences in biofilm formation and surface roughness among the materials.

Global prevalence of edentulism and dental caries in middle-aged and elderly persons: A systematic review and meta-analysis

R. Borg-Bartolo et al.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the prevalence of edentulism and dental caries among community-dwellers aged >= 45 years worldwide. The findings showed wide variations in tooth loss and dental caries rates among different countries, age groups, and socioeconomic statuses. This highlights the importance of standardized and regular research for comparison and monitoring of oral health globally.

Dental plaque microbiota profiles of children with caries-free and caries-active dentition

Muawia A. Qudeimat et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the bacterial community composition in caries-active and caries-free children using next generation sequencing techniques. While diversity indices did not find differences between the groups, comparative analysis at the species level revealed specific bacteria that were significantly more abundant in caries-active children. The predominance of certain species in caries-free children warrants further research into their potential role in a health-associated microbial community.

Novel Nano Calcium Fluoride Remineralizing and Antibacterial Dental Composites

Heba Mitwalli et al.

Summary: The study developed a new bioactive nanocomposite with antibacterial and remineralizing properties by incorporating DMAHDM and nCaF2. The composites demonstrated good mechanical properties, potent antibacterial activity against biofilms, and high F and Ca ion releases, showing potential for preventing caries.
