Effect of tapered-end and round-end bristles on the abrasive dentine wear applying increasing brushing forces

Blend Hamza et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of toothbrush bristles end configuration on abrasive dentine wear at different brushing forces. The results show that brushing with tapered-end bristles significantly reduces abrasive dentine wear compared to brushing with round-end bristles, regardless of the applied brushing force. This suggests that tapered-end toothbrushes may be a safer choice, especially for patients showing signs of non-carious cervical lesions.

Effect of the toothbrush tuft arrangement and bristle stiffness on the abrasive dentin wear

Blend Hamza et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of toothbrush tuft arrangement and bristle stiffness on abrasive dentin wear. The results showed that crossed tuft toothbrushes caused less wear compared to parallel tuft toothbrushes. Additionally, soft crossed tuft toothbrushes resulted in higher wear compared to medium crossed tuft toothbrushes. These findings can provide useful guidance for dentists and dental hygienists in advising patients.

Interplay between different manual toothbrushes and brushing loads on erosive tooth wear

Cintia de Melo Silva Souza et al.

Summary: The study found that different types of manual toothbrushes and brushing loads have an impact on the progression of erosive tooth wear (ETW) on enamel. The force of brushing can modulate the ETW of enamel, and certain toothbrushes may be more effective in minimizing enamel loss depending on the brushing load applied. Overall, toothbrush characteristics were not significantly correlated with enamel surface loss in ETW.

Effect of toothbrush bristle stiffness and toothbrushing force on the abrasive dentine wear

Blend Hamza et al.

Summary: The study found that using a soft-bristle toothbrush did not significantly increase abrasive dentine wear with increasing brushing force, while using a medium-bristle toothbrush resulted in an increase in dentine wear with increasing brushing force from 1 to 3 N. However, increasing the brushing force to 4 N did not significantly increase wear.

ANTI-PLAQUE AND ANTI-GINGIVITIS EFFICACY OF DIFFERENT BRISTLE STIFFNESS AND END-SHAPE TOOTHBRUSHES ON INTERPROXIMAL SURFACES: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW WITH META-ANALYSIS

Gerson Pedro Jose Langa et al.

Summary: This systematic review aimed to evaluate the efficacy of different toothbrush bristle stiffness and end-shape on interproximal plaque and gingival inflammation reduction. Results showed that soft tapered-tip bristle toothbrushes demonstrated greater reduction in plaque and gingivitis compared to soft end-rounded bristle toothbrushes. Additionally, medium or hard toothbrushes may have better results in noninterproximal cleaners.
