Effects of a low- or high-frequency colostrum feeding protocol on immunoglobulin G absorption in newborn calves

Summary: The study aimed to determine whether different colostrum replacer feeding frequencies affect serum IgG levels or apparent efficiency of absorption in neonatal calves. The results showed that calves fed with a high-frequency feeding protocol were still able to absorb IgG in the second and third meal, allowing them to achieve similar serum IgG levels to those fed with a low-frequency feeding protocol at 24 hours.

Summary: The study evaluated the accuracy of using STP measurements to estimate FTPI in calves fed colostrum replacer (CR) compared to those fed maternal colostrum. Results showed that STP and IgG concentrations were highly correlated in calves fed maternal colostrum, but lowly correlated in calves fed CR. The current cutoff points for STP may overestimate the number of calves with FTPI when fed CR.
